Ever wanted to decorate the walls of a royal palace? Well, now you can in this colorful, elegant game, Azul. Players compete to be the artisan chosen to decorate the wall of the Royal Palace of Evora. But beware: drafting the correct quantity and style of tiles is important. The most astute artisans plan ahead to maximize the beauty of their work and their scores. Try not to waste supplies in the process.
First of all, at the beginning of the game, each of the players has a personal board and player pieces. A player's turn consists of choosing one of the two following actions: take tiles, whereby the players select tiles from factories on the main board and add them to the personal board; place tile, whereby a player takes the tiles from his personal board and places them on his player board according to certain placement rules. Discard tiles: Return any unused tiles to the main board.
During the players' turns, they score by placing same-colored tiles in specific patterns on their player board. Furthermore, players also lose some points at the end of the round because of unplaced tiles. The winner of the game, after a number of rounds, is identified as the player with the most points.
Azul is a mid-to-heavy strategy game. While the rules are light and accessible, there's some weighty gameplay within. It is both a pattern-building and partially engine-building game. It is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys historical theme games and light to moderate mechanics. It is extremely popular among board game enthusiasts and isn't based on luck but strategy and decisions.
Azul is a new and different game that plays very easy but gives just enough strategy to make it competitive. Visually stunning, this game only takes about a half hour to play and includes up to four players. Give Azul a try today and learn how to play below with the official game rules.
