Between Two Cities is a game that involves drafting tiles that represent parts of a city. During the game, you collaborate with the player to your left to construct one city center, while also working with the player to your right to build a second city center. On each turn, you choose two tiles from your hand, uncover them, and work with your partners to place one tile in each of the two cities.
When the game comes to a close, both cities are evaluated based on their architectural magnificence. Your overall score is determined by the lower of the two scores from the cities you contributed to designing. The player with the highest score at the end emerges as the winner. To emerge victorious in this game, you must balance your attention and effort equally between the two cities.
The Essential Edition of the game is a merged version of the original game and the Capitals expansion, designed to provide a unified gaming experience. Although it comes with a larger box compared to the original game and features unique artwork on certain tiles, it also replaces the board with a scorepad. It's worth noting that the game doesn't introduce any fresh gameplay components, which means that if you already own the Between Two Cities game and the Capitals Expansion, you'll have access to everything included in the Essential Edition.
