The goal in Hot Potato is easy: don't be the player who is holding the potato when the music stops! Begin by opening the pocket and making sure that the switch is in the "ON" position. Players may stand or sit in a circle, prepared to pass the potato around. To begin the game, squeeze the potato to start the music, then throw it to another player. Regardless of whether the player is right beside you or in another room—keep throwing the potato!
The final person who has the potato when the music stops has to take a potato chip. If the music stops while the potato is in the air being passed, the last person who had contact with it also has to take a chip. Squeeze the potato again between rounds to restart the music for the subsequent round and keep passing the potato around.
The game goes on until one player has collected three chips. Then they're out of the game! The other player with fewer than three chips wins. Hot Potato is a fun, fast game where each round is filled with suspense because players rapidly attempt to make sure they won't be holding the potato when the music stops.
