Board Game Capital's Review:
(2017-06-26)
We had a blast playing Ill-Tempered Tikis. Game play is drastically different depending on if you have only two people playing or up to six. We liked playing better when there were more people playing since it opened up a lot more possibilities. Two players was more simple and you could focus a lot more on what you needed to do and how to mess up your opponent. Once the game was over, everyone wanted to play again as the card game introduces a lot of competition and possible strategy to try and complete your family first. Below are a few more things we liked and disliked about this game.

First off - what we liked. The quality is top notch. Not only does it come in a tuck box to keep all the cards together, the tuck box comes in a slightly larger box to keep it protected. Some might see it as overkill but we liked it. The final box size was still portable and very durable. The cards are of great quality material and are not cheap card stock paper. Printing is clear and illustrations are fun and colorful. With 88 cards, this is a pretty good sized deck.

The game definitely takes a few times to get the hang of it and to start to build your own strategy on how to win. That being said, we had to read the rules a couple times and referred back to them occasionally during the first time through. We felt like there was a lot of useful information in the rule booklet but we had a hard time with the organization of it. The examples were a little tricky to follow. We were also confused at first that you have five cards face up in front of you as well as three cards in your hand. Once we sorted all the rules out, we were good to go (and hopefully we are playing correctly).

There are two different versions of game play: Ill-Tempered and Even-Tempered. While we only played the Even Tempered rules, we definitely want to try out the Ill-Tempered alteration. Despite the fact that we might have had an off day understanding the rules, this is a great game. The replay value is high and teaching others how to play verbally helps get more people on board quickly. And last but not least, the wilds cards. Oh the wild cards. Talk about throwing a wrench in your plans. It's a perfect addition to completing a great game.

I'm really tempted to back this. That is a good price for what you get. It seems like a lot of fun.
