Board Game Capital's Review:
Palm IslandWe haven't reviewed nor played a game before where it was a solo game that was played literally only in the palm of your hand - thus the clever name Palm Island. Although you can play with another player which opens up some different gaming options, we enjoyed the solo play the best. The fact that you could pick up the game, ingeniously flip the cards in certain orientations in your hand, keep track of what you have done and gain a score at the end of the game was half magical.

Palm Island is a puzzle game that both intrigued us and challenged us each time we played. The fact that there is no winning but rather how good you did challenges you to do better next time and forces you to learn more about how you could do better. When you achieve higher scores you really feel good about your game and have a desire to gain more points the next time.

Palm Island CardWe noticed that the cards are almost slippery due to the texture on them. They feel really nice but if you hold the whole stack you almost can't as half the deck will fall to the floor. Since you are only holding 17 cards, this becomes less of an issue and almost an aid as you flip, turn and slide the cards around in your hand. Gaining the hand control needed to play this game came quickly but you do have to be careful how you hold the cards since the game can be quickly screwed up if dropped or bumped wrong.

Palm Island has amazing artwork and looks awesome. It's kind of like you took a professional game right out of your phone and turned it into a real life 3D game. We loved how you could play a game like this in your hand. We're still kind of in shock, can you tell?

If you want a game that challenges you, taunts you to play again and forces you to get better all by yourself, Palm Island is the game for you. You are in for a real treat as you play through your first games and improve. We'll have to go back and learn more about how the cooperative and competitive games work since we only tried this once. It's a fun game to pick up and play while you wait - similar to how most treat their phones. Don't be shocked, though, if you get a few strange looks from others as they stare in half confusion at what you are doing. Great card game!
