Board Game Capital's Review:
(2019-02-17)
Doctor Esker's Notebook CardsAn escape room style card game that we can play from home - we were intrigued. After the first puzzle that we solved pretty quickly we were hooked. But sadly, after the first puzzle was over and we were on to the next, we were stuck. We got close but couldn't quite figure it out. We heeded the game's council to set a time limit and head for the hints if we didn't make it on time. Honestly, we couldn't figure out any of the last eight riddles.

Talk about some tricky in depth and creative puzzles! We were more excited to see what the solution was with the help of the hints than we were to play. Each puzzle got more and more difficult and the last challenge just made us all laugh. There was no way in heck we were going to get this one on our own. While we can't claim we are the smartest detectives in the world, we can say this is an amazing card game with some really clever twists (some even literal twists).

We loved the card game quality, we loved the simple and unique artwork on the cards and we loved how the same solution cards were used over and over to help you advance to the next puzzle. The only thing that might be obvious that is a little sad about the game is you can only play it once. After you know all the answers, playing again is pointless. You can, however, keep it for another group and you can act as a live hint for them.

The clues on the website are very good and allow you plenty of opportunity to figure it out on your own. The website was a little small for a mobile device but worked great. With most all games, we worry that those hints will eventually disappear from the internet leaving game owners stranded. We would have liked to see the hints and solutions included as a set of cards with the deck. After seeing that there are sequels to the game, we can see there is some future play if you like the first game.

If you want a murder mystery/escape room style card game then this is the game for you. Plenty of strategy and thinking. A great group problem solving experience. We loved it!
