Learning how to play Frontier The Card Game may seem a bit daunting but the game rules are really straight forward. Most people know how to play Monopoly and wouldn't consider it hard to play yet the rule book is quite large. You'll love dealing with action cards, buying supplies and winning in duels with this game. Give it a try today!

We'll cut straight to it - we loved loved loved this game! What a fun, unique, fully themed card game with an authentic western feel to it. The random events that occur from the draw pile (critters, range, calamity, duels), mixed in with the required supplies needed to stay in the game create a very strategic atmosphere where players aren't really trying to hurt other players but are trying to be the best they can themselves.
Be warned that this game comes with close to 500 cards and a fairly large (yet small in size) rule book. Very daunting at first but the game play is actually fairly simple once learned. The cards add up due to each one having a face value of one. There are no cards that represent five silver dollars for example - you'll need five individual silver dollar cards. After one run through the game or getting the quick version of the rules explained you'll be just as excited as we were to play and play again.
The rule book was well written and explains things very well. We found ourselves referencing it multiple times during the game play. Some games have a quick cheat sheet card with the most valuable items on it. This game doesn't come with one which would have been nice but isn't a deal breaker. The option to choose your difficulty level before the game starts it a definite plus and something that adds more appeal to playing again.
Our biggest complaint was the fact that we had to keep track of our stamina manually on a piece of paper that wasn't provided. With online orders, however, you will receive a PDF template that you can print out to help keep track of stamina and notoriety. We like games to be fully self sufficient with no extra supplies needed that are not included. Stamina cards would have been nice but that just adds about 80 more cards. Keeping track of notoriety can be somewhat cumbersome as well. We'll let these go since all other aspects of the game were so good.
One last thing to keep in mind is the game takes up a lot of space and setup/organization of all the cards is slightly time consuming. Perhaps place mats of some kind would help. The whole game is made up from just a box of cards and the rule book so the physical size of the game is small which is a plus but does induce some extra effort since little improvements would increase the size of the box (and increase the price).
Again, we thought Frontier The Card Game was an awesome game and our cowboy hats go off to the brains and art behind the game. You'll thoroughly enjoy playing this game by yourself or with a small group of up to four players. Play time is slightly longer but gets lost in the full immersive experience of the wild west. A must have game - go buy it now.
