Board Game Capital's Review (2019-08-17):
Can You Dig ItListen up Motown music fans, a new game is in town and ready to rock your world. Can You Dig It? is a trivia game all about soul music. We like soul music and have rocked out to some classics so we thought we'd give this game a try with pretty high aspirations. Unfortunately, we were wide eyed looking at each other as we realized we didn't know anything about Motown soul music. This is for die hard Motown soul music fans.

Now that we've admitted we were horrible at this game (we knew very little and couldn't answer very many questions), we'll give putting our own naivety aside. If nothing else, we learned quite a bit of fun facts after playing.

Coming with 288 cards of fact filled questions and fill in the blanks, this game doesn't disappoint with its wide variety of topics, authors and songs. The game board is a classic 45 RPM record player with some historic era appropriate game pawns. With a juke box present throughout the game, you'll be transported back in time back to the swinging hits of Motown.

Can You Dig ItWe were impressed by how well this game was produced but felt it fell short in a few areas. First, the game box we received didn't close all the way because of the two thick stacks of cards inside. After playing we split the two decks into four and the issue went away. Second, the game board is thick and awesome how it puzzle pieces together. It doesn't, however, connect the two side of the board. We felt that kind of defeated the purpose of the puzzle pieces. We would have liked to see all four locked together. Third, the graphics were a little simple and felt plain at times (game board looks like a beta version before the more flashy rendition was complete). If this was intentional to date the game and make it look more like its time, then we'll let this slide.

Game rules are very simple (as was the 8.5x11 piece of paper they were printed on). Basic trivia type rules applied. An extra point is awarded it you choose a gold card. Other subtle items give this game a slight twist and make it unique.

All in all, it's a great trivia game (if you know A LOT about Motown soul music). We felt it fell short of being in the top tier of games due to some build/quality improvements that could be made. Still, it's not a cheap, no thought included game. For what it is in the hands of those it's marketed to, it's a game that you'll enjoy playing while listening to some tunes in the background.
