Doominglings is a quick-paced, light-hearted card game that one can learn within a single round of playing. Meant for 2-6 players aged 10 and above, each game may take from 20 to 45 minutes to play, depending on the number of players. The goal in Doomlings is to earn points across several rounds, called ages and catastrophes. The game ends when the third and last disaster comes out; the player with the highest score at the end of it is declared the winner.
Colorful cards and the simplicity of gameplay make Doomlings ideal for various social situations-from family gatherings, road trips, or hangouts with friends to board game nights. With its unique design, it will take players from teenage to childhood, making it a perfect avenue where anybody stops to laugh over attempts at the survival of humanity. The game of Doomlings does promise a different experience for the player with each round, especially due to the randomized set-up and differing effect of the cards.
While in the middle of the game, the players can exercise trials and not worry about the best move to make. In that respect, the strategy should not be to overthink playing the best card, but just trust instincts, try out moves, and enjoy the game; after all, it is a game called Doomlings that shouldn't be stressed about. So take a deep breath, jump in, and enjoy the ride. Feel free to give your thoughts on this intriguing card game and take a closer look at the official PDF rules for the game of Doomlings below.

It's not everyday you can play a game that just might be your last – since you're playing until the world's end. We loved how right on the opening page to the game rules, it states that you might overthink your hand or try to create some random strategy with cards you have no clue what they might do. This is so true! We were just slapping down cards our whole first play through wondering what was going to happen. Just like the game rules state, there is no perfect way to play and just like in life, there will be curve balls. Some oddly wise and deep wisdom for a card game.
Our favorite part about Doomlings are the ages. How cool that you get to have special powers, abilities or disadvantages but for only one round before the next one is unveiled? Don't get too comfortable with anything in this game since there is always a card to mix things up. This leads to an infinite replayability with this game guaranteeing no two games will ever be the same. We also loved how each player could have different amounts of cards in their hands with the clever stabilize tracker cards.
Leaning how to play the game doesn't take long but you'll sure have questions. Just hang in there and get through your first game and it will all make sense in the end. We learned how to play with the video QR code in the rules but referenced the printed game rules a few times for clarification. Rules are well written, to the point and nicely organized so you can quickly find answers to your questions. Tallying up your score can be a little tricky at times but the rules clearly state the best way to do it.
The game quality of Doomlings is above average. You'll get a strong sturdy box that is compartmentalized with room to grow with future expansion packs. They even used a cool reflective metallic looking print so things shine and stand out more. Cards are textured with a fun and colorful theme. We were so focused on the larger action text on the bottom of the cards that we didn't realize the small funny captions on the tops of the cards – some are downright hilarious with their cute little graphics.
The only thing we felt overwhelmed with is the amount of chaos that we felt was going on. This didn't really matter in the end but it felt like we needed to memorize card names, characteristics, actions, points, card colors, strategy, etc. Once we caught on that this is a hilarious, laid back, “end of the world” game, we didn't stress about much and wanted to play again and again with lots of laughs and smiles.
Game play is quick other than waiting for playing to figure out what they want to do with so many options. Playing with two players is just as fun as playing with six. Having someone less than ten years old playing is doable but they will need to know how to read fairly well.
If you're looking for a fun, spastic, minimal strategy, face paced unique card game, then this is it. Doomlings is a blast to play and will surely find a permanent place on your gaming shelf since it caters to almost any type of player. With expansion packs on the horizon, this game has a lot of potential and definitely worth the price.
