The aim of the game is to traverse the land while visiting as many famous towns as possible using a number of different types of transport. Elfenland starts where the most towns visited wins the game. But it's not that simple. The map that each elf is given helps them plot their route to maximize their traveling. On the way, each elf has to choose a different kind of transport like dragons, unicorns, giant pigs, elfcycles, troll wagons, magic clouds, ferries, and rafts. The modes of transport are limited in number, and must be used judiciously.
Players race to use their available resources effectively while having in mind the limited options for each type of transport. It is that, because this ride or those methods of transport might not be available in some regions, players must fathom their moves in such a way to put them an inch ahead of their opponents. The challenge is to marry speed with great resource management; thus it is an interesting dynamic game experience.

Thus are the rules of Elfenland: the game wraps up with the fourth round. The winner of the game shall be the player with the most Town Pieces at the end of the game. In case of a tie in the number of Town Pieces, then the winner-Protesto-list will be the one who has the most Travel Cards in hand. A player wins the game if he or she obtains all of the Town Pieces before the end of Round 3.
