GAME SUMMARY
The Revolution of the Flemish Guilds started with the Battle of the Golden Spurs, which took place in Kortrijk on July 11th, 1302. The most prominent guilds, such as those of the weavers, fullers, dyers, and cloth-cutters, played a dominant role in pushing out the occupations of King Philip IV of France's armies from all of Flanders. The result was to be that, because of that, the guilds obtained independence and the right to co-manage the cities of Flanders. This victory set a spark to the revolution in other towns; at Bruges, Ghent, and Ypres, the guilds seized power. Parallel outbreaks took place at Utrecht and Liège with the Church's support.

Power struggles within the towns soon preoccupied the incipient guild governments. Craft guilds struggled among themselves for ascendancy, trying to outbid one another in an effort to dominate key districts. It is your starting point within the game-you get cast to navigate the emerging power struggle, and you must spread your influence in the districts with a great deal of ability and foresight. The aim of this is to have the most influence over Flanders after the end of the game.

There are six steps in a game where players place their buildings to extend their influence in different towns. The game comes to an end after a round of six steps if only one free building space is left on the board or if the pile of golden cards runs out. All open spaces are then covered, and the final scoring is activated. Points are given to the players as a check of their influence in the towns according to strategic placements.

When the towns are all scored, additional points are awarded for the influence cards. The player who has the most of these influence cards at the end of the game is awarded three additional points. If there is a tie regarding the highest quantity, each of those players will receive the three-point bonus. This additional scoring phase adds a layer of strategy, as players must consider not only their territorial control but also the influence they hold in the final moments of the game.

The player with the most points at the end of this final calculation is the winner. The game challenges players to manage their resources, expand their influence, and outmaneuver their opponents in the dynamic and competitive environment of medieval Flanders. It's a game of strategy, foresight, and timing-where only the most skilled tacticians can claim victory.
