Namesake is the popular party game where individuals compete to say celebrities whose first name meets a specific theme. The game itself is simple: players take turns drawing a name card and having to instantly shout out a celebrity whose name coincides with what's on the card. This speed test brings everyone on the edge of their seats, fast-fire thinking, and creativity involved as players constantly take turns mentioning celebrities in varying categories.
The goal of Namesake is to be the one who reaches the finish line at the end of the board first. However, the task truly occurs once you reach the "Final Namesake" space. This is where the game comes in that you will need to recall famous people of the same given name from various categories. It is not a case of saying any celebrity, but rather to assign them to their specific categories, i.e., stars, fictional heroines and heroes, musicians, etc.
To win the game, you will need to pick one celebrity whose first name is the same as in at least three of the six categories. If you draw out the name "Tom," you could say Tom Cruise (Actors), Tom Sawyer (Book Characters), and Tom Petty (Singers). But there is a catch—each of the names utilized must be different. If you've already given someone that first name earlier in the game, then you must draw another card.
Namesake isn't merely a game of recall and brain, but an icebreaker as well, so it's the perfect party game. It gets everyone involved and enjoying their cultural intelligence in a fun, competitive way. Try playing Namesake at your next soiree and see who can come up with the best names to take the game!
