Players take turns placing letter tiles on the game board to form words. Words must be at least two letters long and must connect to existing words on the board. Points are scored based on the length and complexity of the words, with premium squares on the board worth extra points. If a player cannot form a word, they must pass their turn. The game ends when all of the tiles have been placed on the board and one player uses all of their tiles. The player with the highest score wins.

can a player add to the bottom as well as the top of an existing word during one play. Example: the word EMIT is on the board and the next player wants to make it REMITTING.

I have played Scrabble a few time but never by the official rules. We just put words down. As a family we just tried to play like the instructions say and it was much more strategic. We'll have to play like this next time. Go figure that playing by the rules is more fun...

I'm not much of a word guy or that great at spelling but I played with game with my daughter and it was surprisingly entertaining. Not sure I get all the rules for scoring but it was fun trying to come up with words based on what I had in my tray.
